"It´s night. A sea of lights in- and outside in the casino shine her the way into the inside of the mighty building. With her skintight silk dress strolls past in money, diamonds, cigar smell and men gazing at her ...."
Big orchestra, blower and groovy percussion-sounds combined with a clear women's voice - this is "The Casino Royal". "The Casino Royal" was founded in Portugal by producer Pedro Janela. After a longer search, he decided on the singer Mafalda Portela as firm "voice" for the still young band.

The first album "Dolce Vita" was completely produced and recorded at Master Mix Studios in Portugal. The band, today consisting of Pedro Janela (production, keyboards), Mafalda Portela (vocals), Mauro Ribeiro (guitar), Ricardo Ribeiro (percussion) and Miguel Duarte (bass), is influenced very strongly by the "Easy-Listening" sound. The voice of Fado-singer Mafalda Portela, cheeky, sexy or melancholy, embodies a breath of Hollywood in the 50s and 60s and brings this atmosphere also on stage during the live gigs of "The Casino Royal.

Inspired from the "Dolce Vita", to the luxurious life in the casino in which women and men are surrounded by money, luxury and hedonistic plays, the first album is to be understood as a perfect soundtrack for such a scenario.

The film aesthetics and the soundtracks of the 60s and 70s had strong influence on the album "Dolce Vita" also. The idea and the red thread of "The Casino Royal" is the creation of a female character which is involved constantly in "Little Plays". Whether power plays between men and women in "Now that I'm Blond" or own play addiction in the casino are described in the lyrics of "The Casino Royal".

Pedro Janela and his band have made to themselves the job in her music and in her lyrics to analyze the 60s and 70s infront of the audience. Against the music which is already known, they want to create a "Nouvelle Vague" with the album "Dolce Vita" to bring out something new.

Furthermore "The Casino Royal" turns against the drowsiness of a wrong Portuguese intellectual scene to be able to hear the maintained music properly. The music of "The Casino Royal" is a mixture of Fado, electronic beats and moods á la James Bond.

The head and therefore responsibly for the lyrics and melodies is the musicologist Pedro Janela, who created an innovative, creative language. Pedro Janela is a producer, composer, pianist as well as digital man's output unit in one person.

All tracks from "The Casino Royal" are an epic, discribing presentation of circumstances. Step by step the listener can experience the pleasure of an outstanding Portuguese band.

The second album from The Casino Royal "From Portugal with Love" continues with the musical moods and seamless story of their debut album "Dolce Vita". Again, the origins of lounge music from the 50s and 60s were celebrated in perfect mood music in widescreen format, which is dreamed of in a comfortable luxurious site,

This Music fits perfectly in hotel lobbies, airport restaurants, bars, or just beside a roulette or blackjack table. This Music explores a balance between popular jazz and popular music of the '20s.

The Casino Royal conjures again this wonderfully light songwriting with orchestral Drive, Mediterranean groove, soft acoustic-riffs and rainbow-colored melodies.

The Casino Royal conjures again this wonderfully light songwriting with orchestral Drive, Mediterranean groove, soft acoustic-riffs and rainbow-colored melodies. Each song tells a little short story about “white shoes”, the moon, dangerous women and hot kisses. The focus is set on romantic love, with all its uncertainties.

“From Portugal with Love” is a catchy soundtrack is for the cinema-in-mind between classic James Bond movies, a red convertible and Rimini Adriatic 70s disco . The portuguese musician around producer Pedro Janela seem to have deeply absorbed all this with love, desire and dedication, to bring again this classic sound to life.

And so they did it again: Also on the second longplayer, step by step the listener can experience the pleasure of an outstanding Portuguese band.
